About S. Maria Viswasam

Mr. S. Maria Viswasam, fondly known as Mr. Visu, hails from the Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu, South India. A dedicated educator, he has devoted nearly three decades to teaching rural children at the primary level, serving both as a teacher and principal. His passion for education extends beyond the classroom, as he has been a private English tutor since 1988, helping students master the language with dedication and care.  

Born into a Catholic family, he was baptized in 1961. As a young boy, he aspired to become a Catholic priest, a dream nurtured by his maternal grandmother and the local nuns at his village school. However, gaining entry into a Catholic seminary proved to be a challenge due to his low English score in the state board exam of 1977.  

Despite this initial setback, he persevered and spent nearly a decade in the seminary, pursuing his childhood dream. Eventually, he made the conscious decision to leave for reasons of his own, embarking on a new path in life. His remarkable journey is captured in his book, The Memoir, which was republished in 2023 by Ink of Knowledge, Gujarat.  

His story is one of perseverance, dedication, and the transformative power of education, inspiring many who cross his path.
