New Delhi— In a landmark moment for global public health, NIMS University Rajasthan proudly hosted the World Health Summit (WHS) Regional Meeting 2025 at the iconic Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This monumental gathering marked the first time India has hosted the prestigious summit, positioning the nation as a central voice in shaping the future of global health systems, innovation, and equity.

Over the course of three transformative days, the summit brought together more than 5,000 delegates from 54 countries, with 950+ speakers, 160+ scientific sessions, and collaborations with 90+ leading global institutions, including WHO SEARO, UNICEF, Asian Development Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Siemens Healthineers.

The summit's theme, “Scaling Access to Ensure Health Equity,” guided dialogues around the most pressing issues of our time—universal health coverage, climate and planetary health, mental health, emergency preparedness, digital transformation, and One Health.

Historic Inauguration by Global and National Leaders

The inaugural ceremony was led by Prof. (Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar, International President of the World Health Summit and Founder & Chairperson of NIMS University, who praised the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for pioneering the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, calling it a “movement for dignity, health equity, and national pride.”

“We have set a new global benchmark with this summit,” Prof. Tomar said.
“Let this be a launchpad for global health action. Let our ideas know no borders and our partnerships no limits. Bharat Mandapam stands as a shining symbol of India’s readiness to lead the global health dialogue. The opening day featured an exceptional lineup of national and international dignitaries, including:

  • Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Hon’ble MP and Former Union Minister
  • Dr. Axel R. Pries, President, World Health Summit, Germany
  • Dr. Saima Wazed, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia
  • Ms. Helen Clark, Former Prime Minister of New Zealand
  • Dr. Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa
  • Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Former Chief Scientist, WHO
  • Mr. Sanjay Wijesekera, Regional Director, UNICEF South Asia

A Global Platform for Equity and Innovation

With 49.65% women participation and over 35% youth involvement, WHS 2025 stood as a shining example of inclusive leadership and cross-sector collaboration.

NIMS University, as the academic host, demonstrated its rising global footprint in advancing public health, medical research, and innovation. The university’s contributions to the summit were pivotal—not just logistically, but intellectually and strategically.

The summit concluded with powerful reflections from:

  • Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, who highlighted India’s grassroots transformation in sanitation and public infrastructure.
  • Dr. Anurag Agrawal, Chair of the Scientific Committee, who emphasized India’s digital health breakthroughs at billion-plus scale, calling the event’s true value “not in numbers, but in the depth of ideas exchanged.”
  • Dr. Axel Pries, President, WHS: “This summit is about making health more equitable—for everyone, everywhere.”
  • Dr. Sanjay Pattan Shetty, Organizing Secretary: “We’ve curated an event that set a new standard for collaboration, clarity, and impact.”
  • Dr. Deepak Nathiya, Organizing Secretary, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks to all contributors.
